As many of our patrons, associates and friends will know, our Operations Manager Theo Iakimov was last year diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. We are happy to report that his treatment at Ward 10 Royal Bournemouth Hospital has been successful, and he is as robust as ever!
Whilst receiving care at the unit, Theo became aware of the Orchard Garden charity appeal with plans to develop the outside space for additional therapeutic zones and a garden treatment area. As a way of saying ‘thank you’ for his care and treatment he set about fundraising for the Orchard Garden project and has recently presented a cheque for £2,300 to Barry Wilson, Events Co-ordinator at the Bournemouth Hospital Charity.
Theo commented, “I have to thank everyone who supported my fundraising, including guests and friends at Hotel Miramar, patrons and award winners at the Bournemouth Tourism Awards, and colleagues, family and friends for their generosity. I think the fact that we have all been touched by cancer in one way or another means that it is a cause people are willing to support.”
Since handing over the cheque, more hotel guests have asked to make a donation, so Theo has now re-opened his Just Giving page with the aim of continuing his fundraising. He added, “The Orchard Garden at Bournemouth Hospital has several areas. One garden is just for cancer patients in Ward 10, and a re-landscaped and beautifully designed open space for any patients, staff or visitors to enjoy. Anything that can make a hospital visit less stressful is of benefit to everyone.”
