If you’re keen to explore the stunning Dorset coastline, we recommend packing your walking shoes and hitting the coastal path. From short jaunts to day-long hikes, here are a selection of coastal walking routes to get you started.

Swanage

Bournemouth Pier to Swanage - 12.2 miles

Start out at the unmissable landmark - the town’s Victorian Pier - and follow the South West Coast Path to the charming seaside town of Swanage. This one-way route takes in some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK, including Sandbanks and the beaches at Studland, as well as the stunning Jurassic coast landmark, Old Harry Rocks. Hop on the Morebus Purbeck Breezer 50 to return to Bournemouth once you’ve finished exploring Swanage.

Headingsbury Head

Hengistbury Head Loop - 3.7 miles

This short, circular coastal walk is perfect for all abilities. Enjoy panoramic sea views, clifftop paths, Hengistbury Nature Reserve and the golden shores of Mudeford Sandbank Beach.

Boscombe Pier

Pier to Pier (Bournemouth to Boscombe) - 1.5 miles

Perfect for a gentle stroll, with this coastal walk you can choose to walk along the beach, or along the promenade between the two Piers. Pick up a coffee, or an ice cream along the way, admire the colourful beach huts and soak up the spectacular sea views.

Town and seaside circular - 5.4 miles

This trail is more than a coastal walk, taking in both a taste of the town and the shore, making it a great way to get a feel for the area. Make a pit stop to pick up a coffee and enjoy this route at a leisurely pace, stopping to enjoy the glorious sea views.
